{"id":581,"count":6,"description":"It becomes more and more clear that the environment and especially solar radiation, affects the skin function, skin aging and appearance.\r\nThe contribution of photo- aging to the skin aging process is enormous. Photo-aging is associated with deep wrinkles, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. The regulations for solar products in many countries, and especially the demand for much higher protection in the range of UV-A, is now stricter than in the past.\r\nUV-A is the range of the longer wavelength of the UV radiation (320-400 nm). UV-B is the range of the shorter wavelength of the UV radiation (290-320 nm).\r\nAlthough UV-A radiation is less energetic than the UV -B radiation, it is about 95% of the total UV radiation that reaches Earth. Its intensity is fairly constant throughout the day and it penetrates through windows and reaches deeper layers of skin (the dermis). It is clear now, that UV -A radiation, although not causing sunburn, massively accelerates skin aging. \r\nUV-B radiation causes direct sunburn and serious damage to the tissue (photoaging, \r\nimmunosuppression and some types of cancer). The protection rate against UV-B is expressed by the Sun Protection Factor (SPF). This value is determined clinically, where the product is tested for its effectiveness in preventing\/delaying the formation of skin reaction (erythema) in humans during exposure to UV radiation.\r\nIt is important to understand that the sun protection factor (SPF) does not reflect at all the protection \r\nrate in the range of UV\u2013A. A separate method is therefore required to express the level of protection \r\nin this range.\r\nThe European regulation introduced the UVA-PF (UV-A Protection Factor). In order to ensure an effective broad-spectrum protection, the European regulation requires that the protection in UV-A will be at least one third of the claimed SPF of the product.
