Goji berry (Lycium barbarum) has been used in China for more than 2,000 years as a traditional medicinal herb and food supplement. Today, goji berries are considered a superfruit and are consumed worldwide. The primary active components are Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBPs) composed of various monosaccharides such as fucose, ribose, rhamnose, arabinose, xylose, mannose and galactose. Other constituents of the Goji berry fruits are carotenoids, glycosphingolipids, ascorbyl glucoside, phytosterols, flavonoids and vitamins (in particular, riboflavin, thiamine, and ascorbic acid). Significant anti-aging effects of LBPs and other major components have been reported in many scientific publications. In skin cells, it has been demonstrated that LBPs possess a significant anti[1]oxidative and calming effects against UV-B induced photo damage. LBPs also show anti-aging activity in the skin by significantly suppressing the MMP-9 enzyme. The MMP’S are enzymes specialized in the breakdown of the extra cellular matrix components such as various collagen types, elastin and hyaluronic acid. LBPs also have a prebiotic activity that promotes the development of some beneficial probiotic bacteria. Goji berry Skin Revitalizing Serum contains PhytoCellTec™ Goji. PhytoCellTec™ Goji is a novel active ingredient based on goji berry plant stem cells which improves cell-to-cell communication and boots the synthesis of matrix components such as collagen and elastin. Treatment with PhytoCellTec™ Goji significantly improves skin density, reduces wrinkle depth, and enhances the oval face shape through reduced sagging of the facial contours. In addition to PhytoCellTec™ Goji, it contains vegetable squalane, Hemp seed oil and an effective vitamin C derivative.
